How to Create a Free Blog on WordPress 

So, you want to create a WordPress blog ... Congratulations! WordPress is a great solution on how to start a blog, In addition, we think blogging is super cool!

Better yet, it's also surprisingly easy to create a WordPress blog. That's why we say you can do it in less than 15 minutes.

But how easy it is to get started with a free WordPress blog, knowing what to do and how to do it is still important so you don't waste time. That's why I made this guide.

How to create a blog: what you will need

If you want to create a blog, here is the complete step-by-step process:

1. Sign up for web hosting (we recommend Bluehost).

2. Choose a domain name for your blog.

3. Install the free WordPress blogging software.

4. Log in and write your first blog post.

5. Change the design of your blog by choosing a theme.

6. Install some essential plugins.

Step 1: Buy hosting and domain name

Two things are needed to make your free WordPress blog accessible to people around the world:

Hosting - This is the engine that feeds your site. Although you don't "see" it, every site on the internet has a host that feeds it.

Domain: is like the permanent address of your blog. For example, ours is themeisle.com. Take a look at this post if you need help finding a good name.

You can buy your hosting and domain at the same time, so don't worry too much about the essential details right now. But before you can do that, you need to choose a WordPress host. Due to the popularity of WordPress, there are a large number of WordPress hosts.

We personally test the performance and reliability of many hosts. Given the results of all these experiments, we can recommend Bluehost to new WordPress bloggers.

Step 2: Install the free WordPress software

If you want to create a WordPress blog, unsurprisingly, you will need to install the WordPress software.

When you completed the registration process in the previous step, you should have received an email from Bluehost with details on how to log into the Bluehost Customer Area.

Go ahead and log into Bluehost.

As soon as you log in for the first time, Bluehost will provide you with a simple wizard that guides you through the process of installing WordPress on your new site.

Don't see the setup wizard? Don't worry, it's still very easy to install WordPress with Bluehost. Just go to the My Sites area and click the Create Site button to start the wizard:

You will then be able to fill in all the important details for your site name and username/password that you will use to manage your WordPress blog:

After completing the installation process, you can access the new blog dashboard by accessing yourdomain.com/wp-admin.

Step 3: Go ahead and write your first blog post, you won it!

Now that you've learned how to create a WordPress blog, you're probably excited to start blogging!

We'll show you how to change the look of your blog in a second. But first, let's take a look at how easy it is to write a blog post on your new website.

When you first sign in to your blog's WordPress dashboard, you should see a screen like this:


To write a blog post:

1.      Place the post cursor

2.      Click Add New


This will launch the WordPress Editor, which allows you to write blog posts using a very intuitive blocking system.

Step 4: Here's how to change the look of your blog.

When creating a WordPress blog, one of the main benefits you get is access to a huge collection of WordPress themes and plugins. Here's a quick rundown of the two:

  • Place the cursor over the layout
  • Select topics

 

  • Click the Add New button


  • If you choose a free theme on WordPress.org, search for the theme by name and Click Install.

If you purchased the premium theme, click the Upload Theme button, and upload the ZIP file you should have received when you purchased the theme.


Step 5: Here’s how to add functionality to your blog

While themes are primarily about appearances, plugins are more focused on helping you add functionality to your free WordPress blog.

When you first create a WordPress blog, you almost have the ability to write blog posts and create pages.

l  Plugins allow you to add more advanced features such as:

  • Contact forms
  • Social network buttons
  • Backups
  • Improved SEO

  • Go to Plugins → Add New
  • If you chose a free plugin on WordPress.org, search for the plugin by name and click Install Now.
  • If you purchased a premium plugin, click the Upload Plugin button, and upload the ZIP file you should have received when you purchased the plugin.


Be sure to activate the plugin after installation.
